The novel takes the reader step by step while revealing the story and the whole process of telling and showing is balanced. Nobody’s perfect so not even the main protagonist, the hero might be brave in some circumstances but irrationally fearful at some stages of life.
Characters grow with the passage of time and you will find some ignorant characters in the final move. The story offers a greater amount of tension and suspense due to the protagonist(s) against other characters, the environment, or having an internal struggle.
